On my way to the market to pick up lunch... I stepped in vomit AND urine.

Thankfully I was wearing shoes (I haven't been shoe-less on SF streets in a long time... usually only happens after 2am).

How is it possible that I JUST heard about the oil spill today at lunch? While I can't say I always make time to watch the news, and reading the newspaper isn't my top priority either... I DO listen to the radio and I am on line ALL THE TIME..... But it wasn't until today at lunch with girlfriend, that I found out there was a huge oil spill! As oil contaminated more beaches and birds throughout the Bay Area, Coast Guard officials today admitted they took too long to notify the public about the skyrocketing size of the ship-fuel spill but defended their response to the mess.

Dear Homeless People...

Help me understand something:

Why do I see so many people litter on the streets of San Francisco? I'm not saying I think it's strictly the homeless that litter, but a majority of the time that's what seems to be the case.

Why don't you treat the streets better? I mean after all it's where you call home. If you lived in an apartment would you throw rubbish on the floor? Would you urinate on the walls?

I can't help but gasp every time I see this happen. And I know I probably shouldn't, but I do say something to person when I see it happen, as long as I feel safe (I'd hate to get attacked by a crazy person when I'm strolling through the Tenderloin because I asked someone to pick up bottle.. although people, they are worth money). I'm generally nice and try not to be condescending, but it is my city too.

I saw a man today (not sure if he was homeless or not) that took a few pieces of paper and cut them into small pieces and threw them on the ground as he walked for a block and a half. I finally saw him go into the post office where I proceeded to follow him. I told him (in a stern voice) that it is not acceptable that he litters. And I told him he should go pick it up. He then proceeded to tell me to keep walking. So I did.

All I'm asking is please treat the parks like you're proud of them, after all you never know when company may be stopping by. Don't you want your bench to be clean?
