Skier dies at Heavenly Resort
This was reported on KTVU and I'm re-reporting...
Over the weekend a 42 year old man died in a skiing accident at Heavenly resort. Apparently they were in Mott Canyon (one of my favorite spots) and he went off a cliff and slid 1000 feet! Poor guy wasn't wearing a helmet.
This is to remind all of you skiers & snowboarders, please never go up without your helmet. Speaking from first hand experience, brain surgery is NOT a walk in the park.
Here's a picture of me with my helmet. No, it's not attractive but I don't want any more holes drilled in my head. And I certainly don't want to be flown off a mountain again. It's expensive.

a couple seasons ago I was snowboarding and caught an edge. Took a spill and my head whipped back and hit ice. I eventually blacked out so I don't remember much but they had to fly me off the mountain. I had broken a blood vessel on my brain and it formed a clot. (subdural hematoma). I was flown to a trauma center and underwent emergency brain surgery.
I woke up and I was blind.
I eventually got my eyesite back and they handed me baggy with one of my pig-tail braids in it! They shaved half my head. I mean smooth as a baby's butt.
But I feel great now. No lingering problems... well I forget words occasionally but overall I'm grateful. And wear my helmet!
WOW. that is a crazy story rachel. i definitely treasure my helmet. and will do more so after hearing that story.
